When a patient taps the link in their Vital SMS, they're taken to the login screen. The screen shows:
The name of the facility
What's available once they log in
A legal disclaimer linking to our Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy
If the patient has already logged in earlier in their visit, they won't be asked to log in again.

To log in, the patient confirms their last name and date of birth. By logging in, they agree to our Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy.
Family members logging in on behalf of the patient
A patient may need a family member or caregiver to log in on their behalf. To enable this, the family member or caregiver's phone number must be added to the patient's registration record. As long as no one else has already accessed Vital Emergency for that patient, the family member or caregiver will receive an SMS invite. They use the patient's last name and date of birth to log in.
Frequently asked questions
What happens if a patient enters their details incorrectly?
After ten failed attempts, the visit link in the SMS is deactivated. The clinician can re-invite the patient by direct message or QR code from the patient list view in the Clinician App.
What happens if a patient's name is misspelled in the registration system?
If the last name is misspelled and later corrected in the facility's registration system, the patient may have trouble logging in. The clinician can re-invite the patient using the same direct message or QR code option.
What happens if the patient shares their visit link with someone else?
Because of the sensitivity of the data shown, only one person can "own" a patient's visit in the app. The first person to log in — patient or otherwise — locks the visit, and anyone else using the link will see an error. To avoid this, patients can share their appointment from inside the app.
Is the login confirmation saved if a patient closes the browser tab?
Yes. Once the patient has confirmed their last name and date of birth, they'll be logged in directly the next time they open the link.
How long does a patient have access to Vital Emergency or Vital Inpatient?
14 days from their initial login. Each new SMS link extends access for another 14 days.
